The Secret Behind a Reliable Connector: Why Jiatel’s Two-Piece Pin Receptacle is the Future of Precision

In the miniature world of electronic connectors, the Pin Receptacle plays a critical role, creating a stable bridge between two electronic components. But did you know that a high-quality pin receptacle is far more complex than just a “hole”? It’s the culmination of precision engineering and advanced materials science.

Today, let’s dive into Jiatel’s Pin Receptacles and uncover why they excel in high-demand applications. The core secret lies in our unique two-piece design.

Contact body and clips are manufactured and plating separately.  The contact body is manufacture by a highspeed turning process with the additional secondary operation if required. The clips are stamped and formed from sheet material. Depending on size and characteristics, the clips are designed with 3 ,4 and 6 contact fingers. They can be mated use with male pin diameter ranges from 0.25mm to 2.5mm. They can accept square or rectangular pin.

Why Is a Two-Piece Design the “Superior Solution”?

Traditional pin receptacles are often single-piece, a simple structure with a fatal flaw: a single component cannot perfectly balance both mechanical strength and electrical performance. It’s like asking a wrench to also function as a screwdriver—there will always be a compromise.

Jiatel’s innovative two-piece design solves this problem by dividing the task between two specialized components:

  1. The Contact Body: Made using a high-speed turning process, its primary job is to provide robust mechanical support and precise structural alignment. Think of it as the foundation and walls of a building—strong and stable.

  2. The Multi-finger Contact Spring: This is the “soul” of our pin receptacle. Stamped from a high-elasticity metal, often beryllium copper, this component has a unique “clip” shape with a 3, 4, or 6-finger design. Its sole purpose is to ensure a tight grip and a stable electrical connection with the male pin.

This “division of labor” allows each part to be independently optimized, achieving a level of reliability and performance that a one-piece design simply cannot match.

Why Are Materials and Plating So Crucial?

A great design requires top-tier materials and processes. We are meticulous about the materials and treatment for each component.

  • Contact Body Materials: We choose Brass (like C36000) or Phosphor Bronze (like Cusn4PbZn4). These materials are not only easy to machine precisely but also offer excellent conductivity, providing the foundation for current flow.

  • Contact Spring Material: This is a detail worth emphasizing. We choose Beryllium Copper (BeCu) (like C17200), a material renowned for its superior elasticity, fatigue strength, and conductivity. Imagine a pin being inserted and removed dozens or even hundreds of times. While ordinary materials would lose their springiness, BeCu ensures the spring always maintains a strong grip, providing a long-lasting and reliable connection.

  • Plating Process: We use a separate plating strategy for each part.

    • Underplating: Nickel: This is the “cornerstone” of all plating. This nickel layer not only provides corrosion and wear resistance but also effectively reduces magnetic permeability to minimize signal interference.

    • Surface Finish: We offer two options depending on the application.

      • Gold (Au): If you need the highest level of signal integrity and corrosion protection, such as in aerospace or medical devices, gold is the best choice.

      • Tin (Sn): For most industrial and consumer electronics, tin is a cost-effective option that also provides reliable corrosion resistance.

  • What are the main advantages of Jiatel’s two-piece pin receptacle?

    • High Reliability: The unique multi-finger design ensures a tight, stable grip, even in harsh environments.

    • High Precision: The two-piece design allows for independent, precise manufacturing of each component.

    • Versatility: Our products are compatible with a wide range of pin sizes (0.25mm to 2.5mm) and shapes, making them suitable for diverse applications.

  • Why choose beryllium copper for the contact spring?

    • Beryllium copper is chosen for its superior spring properties. It ensures that the contact spring maintains its clamping force over thousands of mating cycles, providing a consistently low resistance connection and long-term durability.

  • What’s the difference between gold and tin plating?

    • Gold (Au) offers superior conductivity and corrosion resistance, ideal for mission-critical applications where signal integrity is paramount.

    • Tin (Sn) is a more economical choice that still provides good corrosion resistance, suitable for a wide range of industrial and consumer electronics.
